What Losing Weight Does To Your Body And Brain | The Human Body
weight loss September 21st. 2021, 3:57pmSpecial thanks to John Gunstad, professor with the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University, for speaking with us about his cutting-edge research on how losing weight affects brain function.
Following is the transcript of the video:
Here’s what losing weight does to your body and brain.
During the first week, you may find it easy to lose weight by simply switching to a healthier diet. But as your metabolism adjusts, you won’t burn as many calories as you used to.
So losing additional weight will become harder.
Making matters worse, as the fat melts away, you’ll start to experience an increase in appetite. After a meal, fat cells release a hormone called leptin into the bloodstream.
This surge in leptin levels signals to your brain you’re full and should stop eating. But with less overall fat, people who lose weight show a measurable dip in leptin.
Brain scans of obese patients who had lost 10% of their body weight revealed that less leptin leads to increased activity in regions of the brain that control our desire to eat.
The result isn’t just an increased appetite but an even stronger urge to eat fatty, high-calorie foods, because your brain is trying to restore the body’s leptin levels to normal.
However, fighting that early impulse to gorge on pizza and donuts is worth it in the long run.
Besides the decreased risk of heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, scientists studying overweight people discovered that losing just one pound of body weight reduces four pounds of pressure on knee joints.
Losing excess weight also reduces strain on the blood vessels, increases blood flow to the brain, and boosts overall brain function.
Several studies have shown that people who underwent weight-loss surgery saw an improvement in memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills in as soon as three months.
Plus, brain scans indicate that people who lost weight and kept it off for nine months reacted differently when shown images of high-calorie foods than before they lost the weight.
The brain regions that process reward, motivation, and taste didn’t react as strongly, whereas the areas that promote overall self-control had a boost in activity.
So fighting those cravings early on might make them easier to control later. Turns out — like anything else — losing weight can get easier with practice.

Losing weight is all about eating less calories. If you really wanna lose fat you have to fast, one big meal a day a few hours before bed maybe a snack in the morning to get you going. Do this and in a few months you be looking 5 times better. I never thought i would ever have a jawline after being a chubby kid my whole life its pretty crazy what the human body can achieve. Just remember you have to have do a plan that you can maintain everyday and adapt for the rest of your life or else you just relapse and gain the weight back. So in a nutshell just eat less and less often. But don’t forget to get the right nutrients in when you do. Fasting on sugar will just make you weak, fasting on protein will make you strong but its not fun.

So basically, your body's almost always working against you no matter what you're doing based on outdated, unnecessary instincts?
Nice.

Jesus died on the cross for Us and put to death Sin in our lives when we accept the Gospel of the kingdom of God When you seek him in fullness and truth . Our life on this earth is only temporary and short lived compared to eternity that doesn't last forever . All of us will be judged Rich or poor young and old of how we treat one another God will also look at your heart and the things that are in it . Change your heart (Repent) and Receive and accept Jesus as lord For he is the Key for our salvation for us to enter the kingdom of God without him we will surely fail .we can be restored to God and live as people of His Kingdom, under God's rule and reign through Jesus Christ.

It's feels amazing actually.
In 2020, during lockdown I followed intermittent fasting and exercise, every single day. I loose 27 kg in 9-10 months.
Best in shape now.
Now it's 2021.
Growing hair (7 month already) for a bun. LoL

You won't have urges to overeat on Keto coupled with Intermittent Fasting or I.F. (a fancy way of saying skipping meals). Cravings vanish too. I'm almost 62 years old, diabetic, 6'. I weighed 360lbs on 4/10/21. As of today I'm at 299lbs. I've only stumbled twice on this five month journey. I'm hardly a poster child of self control either! Oh yeah, I'm off all Rx's too. Feeling like I'm in my early fifties, shooting for late thirties by next Summer!
Always check with your Doctor first before changing diet and start a new exercise routine!
Hope this helps someone. Peace!
